A Step Back in Time with Goorin Bros.

Goorin Bros. Queen Street Toronto

As of late it has become pretty apparent to me that I’m a ‘hat girl’. Hats are the perfect accessory to elevate your outfit, regardless of the style you are going for, and a good hat can be so versatile. The super bonus to hats? They are amazing for disguising bad hair days!

I purchased my County Line hat from Goorin Bros. about a year ago and haven’t stopped wearing it since. Whether I am going for an elegant or edgy look, I love what this hat adds to an outfit. You can see it in past blog posts here, here and here and countless times on my Instagram page. Last week I was invited to visit the Toronto Goorin Bros. store to learn a bit more about the shop and select a new hat to add to my collection.

When you step into Goorin Bros. hat shop it is like taking a step back in time. Swing music fills the store and old nostalgic items such as hat boxes, gramophones, and crystal cut decanters decorate the shelves.

Jessica, the shopkeeper and a milliner, showed me around the shop and gave me a bit of background on Goorin Bros., and enlightened me on hat making in general. Goorin Bros. has been a family run business since it got its start in 1895 (you know how I love a good family business story!). There are shops all across the United States but we are lucky in Toronto to have 1 of only 2 Goorin Bros. locations that offers in-house customization services.

I’m always drawn to the felt hats – the quality and craftsmanship of each of these pieces is beautiful. I had always been curious about the seasonality of felt hats. Felt hats are generally seen as 3 season hats- fall, winter, and spring, but I have definitely been known to wear mine on summer nights.

I tried on countless hats in the shop before deciding on the Goodman hat. I love the finished edge, the satin ribbon, and the beautiful blue grey colour. I am positive it is going to be a staple in my wardrobe, just like my County Line hat. I didn’t wait long before taking my hat on a Sunday stroll to my local coffee shop.

You look great in this hat. It looks like they have a great selection. I don’t wear a lot of hats myself, but I might have to check this site out. I might just turn into a hat girl myself. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Sounds like a super cool shop. I love the ‘accessory’ bar.
I used to wear hats all the time, but since I had my hair cut into a bob (I’m trying to grow my hair back to the original length!) I keep my up all the time and buns and hats don’t mix 🙂

This is such a fabulous post with incredibly beautiful pictures. I am also such a hat girl, although I tend to wear the same kind of hat all the time (except for in winter where I tend to live in beanies, as it is so cold here in Berlin). Really in love with the hat you are wearing in these shots though – it definitely makes me want to expand my hat horizons. Goorin Bros also looks like such a fabulous store and I love how you are immediately transported back in time upon entering.

These are beautiful! I love hats, I just never really wear them, but I think I’ll give it a try. I don’t feel like I can pull it off, but love it so much on other people! A hat can definitely spice up any outfit! This shop looks very lovely, thank you for sharing. Have a great week!
