Tips for Putting Together a Dinner Outfit

Dinner Outfit

Last weekend was Dan’s and my anniversary. To celebrate we decided to go out for a special dinner. Choosing a new restaurant is always a task for us (we tend to stick to a few ol’ faithfuls), but we really wanted to try something new and different. I had read an article just a few days earlier about the best vegetarian restaurants in Toronto (we’re both long-time vegetarians) and one of the restaurants seemed like an environment we would enjoy. Woodlot was rustic, charming, healthy, and had a vegetarian menu – all positive check marks in our books! I logged onto Open Table to make my reservation and read the restaurant reviews. When the Open Table reviews checked out perfectly, we looked a times we could book for Saturday night. Booking through Open Table was super easy and right up my alley – any time that I can do something online, I’m in! I liked being able to see all the available time options for that week right in front of me on the computer screen and decide which day and time was best for us at our pace. It was also great that Open Table sent an e-mail about our reservation the day before – a welcome reminder at the end of a busy week.

I went for a dinner outfit that I thought would suit the ambiance of the restaurant – sophisticated, simple, and neutral in tone. I wanted to wear pants but still look a bit dressed up. A wide leg pant in a soft wool material is great for this look. I paired these with a tight simple top to offset the loose pant and a statement necklace.

A few tips for putting together your dinner outfit:
When going out for dinner you’re sitting at a table which means the people you’re dining with will mostly be seeing your top. Feel free to go a little wild with your top or wear a bold statement necklace like I did here.

I’ve mentioned it before, I HATE being cold. I always bear this in mind when going out for dinner and make sure to dress with layers. I’m not talking long johns; but if you have a nice scarf that goes with your outfit, bring it along in case you get chilly and want to drape it over your shoulders.

When going out for dinner take the opportunity to wear your glitziest shoes. Since you’re sitting most of the time it is a good opportunity to wear those shoes that you love but they just aren’t that comfortable! It’s great to get up at the end of the meal and show off your fabulous shoes, knowing that you just have to make it back to the car before you can take them off!

The wind was CRAZY that day, hence my wild hair!

We loved our seat beside the second floor balcony at Woodlot. We got to watch the chefs busily prepare each meal in the kitchen below.
