Fall at Andrew’s Scenic Acres & Simple Goals to Take Care of Yourself

Flower Picking at Andrew’s Scenic Acres is a must do fall activity for those in the GTA! An afternoon in their dahlia patch is just what the doctor ordered 🙂

If you are one of those people that has a list of fall activities, I suggest adding ‘Flower Picking at Andrew’s Scenic Acres’ to that list. Dan and I went to Andrew’s Scenic Acres a couple of weeks ago while we were going to visit his parents. We went for fruit and you can’t imagine my excitement when I saw the field of blooming dahlias in the back! I can’t even tell you how delightful it was – it was unexpected and so so beautiful. We also happened to be there on a Monday afternoon and we had the field to ourselves…bonus! The whole way home I kept saying to Dan ‘Wasn’t that SO MUCH FUN!?!!!’ to which he kinda laughed, rolled his eyes, and agreed (to amuse me, I think).

Fall Updates

My sister and I just returned from visiting friends in England (have you been following along on Instagram?). We stayed in the English countryside and it was beyond lovely there. While we were away, Toronto had the hottest weather this year (over 30 degrees!) but in England it certainly felt like fall.

As my wedding season slows down I have a few months where I can work on other projects and plan for the next year. The start of fall has me feeling especially motivated. While I write out all my goals I actually find that a lot of my goals go beyond work and business. More focused around personal life and health/well-being. That’s new for me! So, with this new season I am looking forward to the steps I am taking with my business but also taking some steps with a bit of self improvement and care too. I think all of us busy ladies could benefit from these practices (if you aren’t doing them already), so I thought I’d share my goals with you with hopes that they can inspire you to take care of yourself too!

Simple Daily Practices for Self Care

1. Start the Day with a Good Breakfast

I’m so bad at this one! Although I’ve never enjoyed breakfast, I know and recognize that a good breakfast can set you up for a successful day. I’ve noticed on the days that I do actually have breakfast I am much more awake throughout the day. Are there any other breakfast haters like me out there? What are some of your favourite breakfasts to eat? Breakfast is a great way to take care of yourself starting first thing in the morning.

2. Daily Exercise

During wedding season I am on my feet all week but the weeks without a wedding I am strapped to my desk. I HATE to admit this, but I have days on my steps calculator that hover around 100 (yep, I didn’t know it was possible either). In my defence, I usually notice this around 6pm and then go out for a walk…but still! Physical activity improves your mood, stress levels, brainpower and overall health. When I look at the benefits I feel a little silly for not making the effort on these days. Whether that be a trip to the gym, a class, or even a long walk by the water. The goal is just to get up and get moving!

3. Read!

Yeah guys…like, a book! Reading for pleasure has definitely decreased since working for myself. It is all too easy to fill every waking moment with work related reading. My goal is to take an hour (err…or half an hour) a day to read – learn new things, expand vocabulary and sharpen writing skills. A read before bed sounds like a great way to cap off the day!

4. Get Some Sun

I truly find lying out in the sun (only for 20 minutes, don’t worry :)) is therapeutic. Not to mention, many of us are Vitamin D deficient – a vitamin that plays a large role in our overall health. Although the warmer weather is winding down getting some sun to skin action is still important.

5. Go to Sleep Earlier

Ironically, it’s midnight while I write this, and my target bedtime is 10pm…this may take some work! Sleep is one of the main things that impacts mood, stress, performance, and brainpower. Everyone has different sleep needs and catering to yours is something that is important for your body. I am curious if getting a bit more sleep will help me with my afternoon tiredness. Hoping I can get my butt into gear and figure that out soon!

While these sound like really simple practices, I have a feeling that I am not the only one that could improve in these areas. I’m back home now and it feels like fall in Toronto finally too. I am ready to take some action on these goals and am looking forward to having a bit more routine going forward!  I hope that these goals inspire some of you to take steps to take care of yourself too!
