San Francisco Diaries

Fort Funston in San Francisco

California Dreaming

In November Dan and I made a trip to San Francisco and the surrounding area for 10 days. I posted one post while we were away about Tartine bakery here. I can’t believe I haven’t shared more of this amazing trip but with the Christmas season posts taking priority as soon as I returned, these photos got pushed back in the schedule.

We visited with my family in San Francisco and Napa and took a road trip down the coast to Big Sur which was truly amazing. California is such a beautiful place that almost all of our time was spent outdoors taking in the natural landscape. You might be surprised to hear that shopping was on the very bottom of my to-do list and I didn’t even have time to hit any of the shopping spots. Having a change of scenery and experiencing early fall weather again was just what I needed to fuel up for the winter ahead. If you ever have the chance to visit the San Francisco area, I hope you do!

We started our first day at Fort Funston with Chance, my cousins’ awesome dog
Sausality California - lovely spot for a day trip close to San Francisco
Afternoon trip to Sausalito on the ferry. It was so foggy we could only see the town when we pulled in

Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge and stopped at Battery Spencer to take in the views. On the right is the only group shot we took…and I’m not even in it!;)
Lombard Street San Francisco Views

One of my favourite views was from the top of Lombard ‘the crooked’ Street
San Francisco Victoria Architecture

Beautiful buildings like this constantly reminded me to look up
Domaine Chandon Winery in the Napa Valley

We headed to Napa to visit my other cousin and naturally headed to the wineries!
Domaine Chandon Napa Sparkling Wine

Domaine Chandon was the most beautiful winery where you were able to purchase a bottle and sit on the chairs outside to enjoy which is just what we did

Hiking in the evening in Walnut Creek California

My uncle Bob, Dan, and cousin Pat out for an early evening hike in ‘the open space’ in Walnut Creek
Bixby Bridge on the way to Big Sur California

The famous Bixby Bridge on the way down to Big Sur. I could only get out of the car for a minute to take this photo because I was too scared of where we were parked…1 foot away from a huge drop!
The drive down California Highway 1 Coastal Road

The amazing patio at Nepenthe Big Sur overlooks the ocean and the redwood forests

Nepenthe in Big Sur is a must. Delicious food and an unbeatable view.

The rock at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur

Photographers lined up the catch the sunset coming through the rock at Pfeiffer Beach.
Twin Peaks views San Francisco

We headed back to San Francisco and took an unexpected but amazing hike to the top of Twin Peaks – the highest point in the city. We were so high up we were above the fog as shown here and when we turned around we had a view of the whole city.
San Francisco Twin Peaks View

Oh yeah…I did the walk in heels!
Sutro Baths San Francisco

On our final day we took a long leisurely walk along Ocean Beach and ended up at the very cool ancient Sutro Baths

California was a fun and relaxing trip. We were able to see so many beautiful sights and spending time with my cousins was too much fun. If you have any questions about where we stayed, ate, etc. please write in the comments or send me an e-mail! Now I’m off to plan the next trip!

All photos were taken using a Sony Alpha33 and a 50mm 1.8 lens.
