Shop Location: Thorold
Figg Street Co. in downtown Thorold has the most beautifully curated collection of cards and gifts. The shop is best known for paper and stationary goods but they have unique items outside of these categories too. It is a shop where you will find a special gift for the people in your life who appreciate thoughtfully made and selected items. I spend so much time in the store each time I visit because I want to look at every single item. A must visit if you have never been!

Books are an item that I am especially passionate about buying locally. Bookstores add so much to a community and they face such heavy competition to companies like Amazon. Someday Books offers curbside pickup and free local delivery in the Niagara Region. You can shop online or in store.

Gather Niagara is a great catering company based out of Wainfleet. Throughout the year they offer takeout ‘Date Night Dinners’ which are delicious prepared meals that are perfect for a night in. Throughout December, Gather will have more date night dinners advertised on their Instagram (watch their stories to know what is up for grabs!) and will finish off the year with a special New Year’s Eve offering. Gather uses the best of what is in season and their food is always great (my sister and I order often!). Having a night in with quality prepared food is a great way to make the holiday season feel special in times when we may not celebrating the season the way we usually do.

The Yellow Pear has a great restaurant in St. Catharines and they also do event catering (they catered our wedding!). This year, with the pandemic, The Yellow Pear has shifted to online meal ordering for curbside pick up and they offer amazing family comfort meals. For both the Canadian and American Thanksgivings they made traditional Thanksgiving meals for pickup and they are offering the same for Christmas. If you are celebrating on a smaller scale this year, their meal options would be perfect to still enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner. Their Christmas meals include roast turkey, sliced ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy, and a bun. They have fun New Year’s Eve dinner options to check out too! Order online in advance via their website.

Niagara Food Company is another great local food company you could order from to make the holidays feel special. Since our family will not be getting together this year, I am planning to deliver pies to each household on Christmas morning so everyone can still enjoy food in the way we typically would at Christmas. If you have a true pie or sweets lover in your family Niagara Food Company has a pie of the month subscription that would make such a great gift!

The many wineries and breweries of Niagara are part of what makes Niagara such a fun place to live! If you’re shopping for wine and beer this holiday season, as a gift or to enjoy, I definitely recommend ordering directly from your favourite wineries and breweries. Many offer free (and very fast) delivery within the Niagara Region and excellent curbside pick up options. If you do not have a favourite, please feel free to reach out and I will happily make some suggestions!
If you are shopping for a gift for a wine or beer enthusiast, many of the wineries and breweries will have pre-packaged gift sets available at this time of year. If you’re putting together a gift of your own, I always suggest looking beyond just the beverage offerings too – many wineries and breweries carry merch, glassware, food items, and accessories related to wine and beer that would make great gifts. For a larger gift, many of the local wineries and breweries have subscription plans or club memberships that are a really fun gift that last throughout the year.
Thank you so much for reading our Niagara Small Business Shopping Guide! I hope that you will all find wonderful local businesses to support and enjoy this holiday season.
