Toasted Marshmallow Mocha – A Fancy Hot Chocolate Recipe

Filed in: Recipes

Toasted Marshmallow Mocha

Inspiration from that One Magical Mocha

Last week in Montreal my sister had the most delicious mocha. While she isn’t really one to rave about food or drink, but she insisted that everyone at the table try her drink. We even went back the next day to get a second. So, I started thinking about how I could make my own mocha and give it a special ‘Threads & Blooms twist’. First I thought of the most cozy and delicious garnish of all – marshmallows, and better yet, roasted marshmallows. So here it is, the Toasted Marshmallow Mocha! Did you know that using just your oven you can enjoy your favourite warm summer night treat on a cold winter evening? Seems like something good to me!

Roasted Marshmallow Mocha Recipe

To make 1 cup of Toasted Marshmallow Mocha:
-2 squares of bittersweet Baker’s chocolate
-1 square of milk chocolate Baker’s chocolate
-3/4 cup milk
-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
-1/3 cup coffee OR 1 shot espresso
-Full size marshmallows

*The large mugs here used 1.5 times the above recipe

Making Your Toasted Marshmallow Mocha

In a small pot melt the Baker’s chocolate over low heat stirring continuously as it melts. Next, add in your milk and increase the heat while continuing the stir and mix the milk and chocolate, add in the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Now, heat until it is your desired temperature (warm to hot). Prepare your coffee or espresso separately. Finally, combine the coffee and hot chocolate in a cup. Add your marshmallows to the top and ta-da! Toasted Marshmallow Mocha! Read below to learn how to toast your marshmallows at home.

To ‘Roast’ the Marshmallows:

Turn your oven on to broil on high. While you are making your mocha, warm the oven but do not heat the marshmallows until your drink is prepared – you want them to be served fresh and warm. On a lightly greased pan lay out your marshmallows. Once the oven is heated place the pan on a shelf about half way in the oven and watch carefully! You want your marshmallows to only get lightly brown on the top. It only took me about a minute and a half. Since it is such a short amount of time I suggest watching them closely.

Place marshmallows on top of your drink with the toasted side up. If a Toasted Marshmallow Mocha isn’t your thing, roasted marshmallows are just as delicious with hot chocolate – take away the coffee from the above recipe and add an extra half a cup of milk, cream, or hot water!
