Last week we visited Dillon’s Distillery. This is the first stop in my Local Profile Series where I feature my favourite spots in the Niagara and Toronto areas. A great place to start and try some Dillon’s Gin!
This weekend we headed to the Niagara region to celebrate my birthday. Growing up in Niagara I have always loved wineries. Something about spending time at a vineyard is so relaxing and enjoyable. I love the lush green grapevines and open landscapes. We often pop into wineries when we have just half an hour to spare and, in the summer, we like to make a full day of it.
This weekend, after many recommendations, we decided to try somewhere new and different. Dillon’s Distillery is a small batch distiller located in Beamsville. They a big focus on using quality local ingredients and supporting local farmers which is what drew me to visit Dillon’s Distillery. The Niagara Region is just the place for that! Just like a winery, Dillon’s has a charming tasting room where you can try their different alcohols; learn about their distilling practices; and buy your a bottle or two of your favourite alcohols.
Dillon’s Gin is one of my favourite ingredients to use to make cocktails. While they are best known for their gin, Dillon’s Distillery also makes vodka, whisky, rye, and seriously awesome bitters. Bitters are a key ingredient in any liquor cabinet and so much fun for a cocktail creative (literally just made that title up…I like it!). A dash of bitters in a cocktail takes it to a whole new level of sophistication and Dillon’s Distillery has your back for that! So, to answer my own question…Yes. Dillon’s Gin is worth all the hype. They even have deliciously naturally flavoured gin such as rose, strawberry, and cherry.
I learned so much about their gins and liquors while tasting some of their small batch creations. Of course, I made sure to bring home a bottle of Dillon’s gin. This week I’m perfecting a recipe to share here! Dillon’s Distillery is the perfect stop to add to your Niagara Wine Tour for something different. Their alcohols are delicious. Their goal is to make quality alcohols using local ingredients. And last but not least, their environment is lovely! Sounds like a good place to visit to me. 🙂
